Speech Therapy for Adults
Because people don’t stop needing help once they turn 18.
Adult services at Cambrian Speech-Language Solutions are primarily geared towards individuals who have acquired a speech-language difficulty in adulthood, usually due to a stroke or traumatic brain injury.
SLP Erin Riley would love to help you with your goals in:
- speech
- language
- cognitive-communication
See below for more information on each.
Erin is also happy to provide speech therapy for developmental speech-language concerns that have gone unaddressed into adulthood.
For example, perhaps you have always wanted to have a lisp addressed, but never got around to it until now.
Post-Stroke/TBI Services
The human brain is incredible
… and astounding in its capacity to heal. That said, a stroke or traumatic brain injury can be devastating. Erin can help with goals in speech, language, and cognitive-communication. CSLS is not offering intervention for voice or swallowing at this time.

Speech
After a stroke or brain injury, you may find that is more difficult to articulate words, whether due to a difficulty with sequencing motor movements, as in apraxia of speech, or due to poor control over the muscles responsible for speech, as in dysarthria. Some individuals may also acquire a stutter.

Language
It is very common for those who have experienced a stroke or TBI, especially one impacting the left side of the brain, to notice difficulties coming up with the words they need to express their ideas. For others, that is only the start of the language difficulties. This relates to difficulties putting one’s ideas into full sentences, and understanding the language of those around them.

Cognitive-Communication
Cognitive-communication relates to the organization of language. A brain injury or stroke can impact:
- making and acting on plans
- attention
- arranging ideas into an easy-to-follow sequence
- language processing
- reasoning and problem-solving with language
- starting and stopping conversation turns
